01 — about

what's actually going on here

started in trades || plumbing, electrical, low-voltage, piddling in IT for tiny outfits - before ending up somewhere nobody plans to end up: keeping molecular biophysics research equipment alive and talking to each other. autoclaves, incubators, networked instrumentation, the server room nobody officially assigned to me but somehow became mine anyway.

turns out fifteen years of "why did this thing stop working" translates pretty directly into "why did this thing get compromised." currently holding CompTIA Security+, grinding toward CySA+, and treating my homelab like a small SOC because reading about detections and actually building them are different skills.

what's running right now

day job
lab instrumentation & low-voltage systems
current cert
Security+ - CySA+ queued ^_^
training
THM/Vulnyx SOC 1/AI/PenTest Path - onward forever
homelab
Proxmox, GPU passthrough, self-hosted everything
os of choice
nix btw, and yes it's on purpose
detection stack
Wazuh + Splunk, mapped to MITRE ATT&CK
local ai
ollama on the 3080 handles local inference (qwen3, embedding, whisper). deepseek api picks up anything the local models can't handle. full voice loop runs on own hardware ~ speech in, inference local, cloned voice out. have you ever asked yourself a question, but you answered back?
03 — rack

what i'm into when i'm not diagnosing something

rhythm
SDVX on a real controller. no cab yet. eventually! but i DO have access to several cabs, which is nice.
reading
political philosophy ~ Fromm, Simondon, Camus ~ that whole lineage of thinking about people and systems.
stack
foss or it doesn't happen. self-hosting isn't a phase, i trust me with my data.
language
chasing Mandarin and genuinely interested in Chinese culture ~ long game, not really just a hobby project.
games
when i have time, im running around in Crimson Desert if the homelab isn't eating my evening.
learning
vulnyx and boot.dev every single day. i want to be able to fix every single problem i've ever had.
hanging
my two favorite things in the world are called heather and shoto, i'm usually around at least one.
god winks
sometimes, everything comes together, and i'll get to do all the cool stuff i like in one day. that's god winking at me, i think.
